Glendale to host series of bike-related events

Glendale residents will be able to attend a variety of bicyclist-oriented activities throughout May, which officials have deemed “Glendale Bike Month.”

The remaining events include:

Monday May 9

Basic Bicycle Repair Workshop

7 to 8:30 p.m., Glendale Central Library Auditorium, 222 E. Harvard St.

Saturday May 14

Glendale Ice Cream Ride

1 to 4 p.m. Verdugo Park, Colina gate, 1621 Cañada Blvd.

Ride organizers will take participants on a route filled with stops at Glendale ice cream shops. The ride is free, but not the ice cream. The ride will be at a slow pace with some hills. Distance will be 12 miles or less.

Helmets required. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Rain cancels the ride.

Thursday May 19

Bike to Work Day

Throughout Los Angeles County, residents are encouraged to ride their bike to work. In Glendale, the various locations will be offering refreshments and support include:

.Montrose Bike Shop — 2501 Honolulu Ave.

.The Bicycle Mart — 1601 S. Brand Blvd.

.Glendale City Hall — 613 E. Broadway

.Glendale Cyclery — 1250 W. Glenoaks Blvd.

.Glendale Transportation Management Associates — 400 N. Brand Blvd.

.Flower & Sonora — City of Glendale and L.A. County Bicycle Coalition

Bike from Work Happy Hour

5 to 7 p.m. Tavern on Brand, 208 N. Brand Blvd.

In honor of Bike to Work Day, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition invites cyclists to meet up for a happy-hour beverage after biking to work. Cyclists get 10% off all food orders. This is not a city of Glendale-endorsed or -sponsored event.

Friday May 20

Bike to School Day

Students throughout Glendale and Los Angeles County are encouraged to ride a bike to school.
