The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office on Thursday filed charges against a 63-year-old man accused of striking his daughter’s boyfriend on the head with a metal rod while he was asleep.

Levon Hovanesyan was charged with one felony count of attempted “willful, deliberate and premeditated” murder and one felony count of aggravated mayhem, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court complaint.

He allegedly hit 33-year-old Glendale resident Mauricio Buendia on the head with a metal rod while he was in bed Tuesday morning. The attack occurred in the Acacia Avenue apartment where Hovanesyan and his daughter live, according to police.

Buendia was taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital and released the following day, police said.

Hovanesyan walked in to the police department Wednesday morning after the alleged attack to turn himself in, and reportedly told officers that he may have killed Buendia.

His arraignment Thursday was pushed to May 31 in the Los Angeles Superior Courtroom in Burbank, court officials said.

He is being held in lieu of $1-million bail, according to court records.
