Glendale High School senior Anna Chilingarian won a national essay and scholarship contest sponsored by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic sites.

This year’s essay topic asked participants to reflect on George Washington’s warning against the advent of political parties in his 1796 farewell address.

Chilingarian will attend the 2011 Congressional Seminar on June 18 in Washington, D.C. The seminar allows high school students to simulate the legislative process by role-playing as members of Congress, lobbyists and caucus leaders.

Chilingarian plans to attend Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. next year.
