James Thomas Humberd, age 83, died in Burbank, CA, on May 27, 2011. Born March 16, 1928 in Lake Odessa, Michigan, he and his beloved wife, Emmy, moved to the Los Angeles area in 1955 and to Burbank in 2004. Survivors include son Ronald James (Hanna) Humberd of Portland, OR, and daughter Linda (Dan) Osti of Burbank, CA, as well as four grandchildren: Joanna, Peter, and John; and Christiana. He was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. R.I. Humberd and Anna Marie (Black) Humberd, and five siblings, Mary Elizabeth Stayer, Paul, Jesse, Johnny, and Esther Coats, and is survived by his sister, Martha (Don) Allbaugh. After a long career in the computer business, Jim retired at age 50. He and his “Sweetie” then began many wonderful years traveling around Europe -- nine trips in all. He wrote three books (Invitation to France, Invitation to Germany, and Invitation to Italy), plus numerous other booklets about their travel experiences. Jim, always wearing his blue visor, loved to pass out his books and refrigerator magnets of his sayings all throughout Burbank, especially at the Media Center mall and the Joslyn Center. He was a larger-than-life, one-of-a-kind individual who is glad to be finally reunited in Heaven with his “Sweetie.” Hundreds of his pictures and stories can be found on his website: www.Travel-Tidbits.com.
