Selina Louise Daniels

July 22, 1927 – June 15, 2011

Selina was born in Long Beach and grew up in Huntington Park. Her parents were Frank and Iva Reed. She went to high school at Huntington Park High School where she spent her senior year waiting for her certain GI to return from World War II. Selina married that GI and the love of her life, Arden Daniels, upon his return in 1947. They met and had their first date in 1941, when she was 13 and he 14. They spent almost 64 years of marriage together working, raising a family, loving and travelling together. She left this world after a diagnosis of melanoma cancer at 83.

Family was the most important focus for both Selina and Arden, having enjoyed being parents to two daughters: Nancy Daniels Lusby, married to Donn Lusby; and Lynda Daniels, married to Stephen Klein. Both daughters followed in their father’s footsteps becoming educators. Selina was grandmother to Mark Daniels Klein and Erica Beth Klein. She is also survived by her cousin Shirley Reed of Glendale.

Selina worked as a secretary, putting her husband through college. She was a working mother throughout her daughters’ young years. She was a positive role model to them both. In 1970, Selina began working for Glendale Community College in the Admissions and Records Office then transferring to the Extended Day Division. She retired in 1986 from the shared secretarial duties for Parent Education and Non-Credit Adult Education.

Selina loved nature and the beauty that it brought to her life. She had a passion for any experience that involved boating, camping, golfing, gardening, reading and swimming. Travelling was a delight to her. She saw the United States as a chance to experience the best the world had to offer. With family and friends, Selina spent more than 60 years enjoying Lake Mohave, Lake Powell and the serene beauty of our National Parks, leaving lasting impressions and memories of the beauty offered by Mother Nature.

Selina was a member of PEO, chapter IH in Glendale. Selina also volunteered each tax season with the AARP Tax Aide program helping those needing assistance in completing their income taxes.

Selina was first a member of the Glendale First United Methodist Church. Selina then moved her membership to the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church where she found solace in her religion while holding on to old friendships and making new ones.

She greeted everyone with her optimistic spirit and bright smile. Selina never knew a stranger and delighted her family and friends with her warmth and down-to-earth attitude. Selina’s last years were filled with pain and discomfort which she endured without complaint. She faced her last struggle with courage and the determination that she was not going to linger. After refusing last-ditch treatment efforts, she came home from the hospital, leaving this world 20 days later, surrounded by her loving family. Her family will forever miss her warm smile and startling blue eyes.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Avenue, Montrose.

In lieu of flowers, Selina, being a firm believer in the work accomplished by them, asked that donations be made to City of Hope, P.O. Box 513477, Los Angeles, 90051 or Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church in Montrose.
