Expect two weeks of northbound I-5 lane closures through Glendale

Up to two lanes of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway between Sonora and Western avenues in Glendale will be closed for two weeks starting July 18, state transportation officials announced today.

The California Department of Transportation will close the lanes from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. July 18 to 22 and again from July 25 to 29, according to the notice. The northbound I-5 Western Avenue off-ramp will also be closed during the same time periods.

Motorists traveling northbound on I-5 should expect to begin merging at the Ventura (134) Freeway, Caltrans warned.

During the closures, crews will be constructing a retaining wall as part of the I-5/Western Avenue Interchange Improvement Project. Most of the work will be performed at night to minimize traffic impacts, according to Caltrans.
