Fit for Life: Fun in the sun

Share

All aboard! So, I know Marina Del Ray is nowhere near the 818 area, but I just have to share my recent sailing experience with y’all. Sailing is universally enjoyable since the love for relaxing in the sun and on the water is universal as well. Even if you aren’t able to get near the water or hop on a boat anytime soon, I’m sure you will be in the sunny weather frequently this summer.

So, here are a few tips for this hot summer weather:

  1. Wear your SUNSCREEN! And I don’t mean that measly SPF 15 either. Slather on that SPF 50 or if you get a little crazy like me, go for the SPF 70 face sunscreen. I made the mistake of not putting any sunscreen on my legs and to say I looked like a crawfish is an understatement.
  2. Drink plenty of water. Sometimes, when you are on or near water, it tends to not be that “hot” because it can get rather windy. However, even though you aren’t hot, you always need to make sure you are hydrating.
  3. If you are on a boat, beware of motion sickness. I went down below into the cabin, and not being used to sailing that proved to be a mistake. Luckily, I kept that morning’s breakfast to myself but a few more minutes down there would have delivered a different esult. If you are getting a bit sick, focus on the horizon and that should do it.
  4. HAVE FUN! The summer is here and if you keep yourself protected – hydrated and covered in sun screen – you can enjoy it with no worries.

The beach, the boats and the water is calling your name folks – so listen to it!
