The arraignment for a 70-year-old Burbank man accused of beating his wife to death with a chair leg was postponed Thursday.

The man, Joseph Brancato was pushed into a Los Angeles County Superior Court on a wheelchair before his attorney asked the judge for more time to compile and review evidence.

His arraignment was rescheduled for Aug. 17. Brancato remains in custody in lieu of $1.02-million bail.

Brancato is charged with killing his 64-year-old wife, Marie Brancato, July 5 at their home in the 800 block of North Valley Street, officials said.

Joseph Brancato has a history of spousal abuse convictions that date back to the 1980s, court records show.

Most recently, Burbank police arrested Joseph Brancato in January 2010 for allegedly hitting his wife on the head.

If convicted of killing his wife, Joseph Brancato faces life in prison with the possibility of parole.
