Burbank to get state grant to promote historic preservation

California officials today announced that Burbank would be among ten cities across the state to get thousands of dollars to promote their historic preservation programs.

The California of Historic Preservation will send $5,000 to Burbank to “engage the community in ongoing preservation efforts,” according to the announcement.

Burbank officials have been working to make the review process for historic property designation easier and less daunting in effort to add more buildings to protected status. So far, just two homes have been designated as historic, which means any changes to their facades must be closely reviewed for historic accuracy.

Many of the grants were for $22,500 to cities such as Sacramento, Riverside, San Francisco and Pasadena, which has an established and robust historic preservation program.
