Seven Glendale police officers were sworn in at a ceremony Thursday, bolstering the department’s ranks and the number of Armenian-Americans in the force.

Officials administered the oath to police officer recruits Conrad Austin, Eric Megertoumian and Gaik Pobokhian and reserve officers Emin Gharibian, Patrick Takla and Olga Varouzian. Promotional Police Officer Steven Koszis was also sworn in.

Their backgrounds vary widely, with some born in Iran and Russia, and others as close as Santa Clarita. Others were raised in Glendale and graduated from local schools, according to an announcement from the police department.
