Sewer crew finds $12,000 ring

Glendale Public Works crews saved a local woman’s $12,000 diamond ring from a life in the city’s sewer system after she dropped it down the sink at work, officials said.

The woman, whom officials did not identify, dropped her ring Monday in the bathroom at Wellspring Therapy in the 500 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard, city officials said.

Unable to retrieve the ring, the woman called the city, which traced it to a sewer pipe, Public Works Director Steve Zurn said.

Like finding a needle in a haystack, crews climbed down a manhole and plucked it from the sewer line to reunite owner and ring.

“This is not something that we regularly do,” Zurn said. “They went beyond the call of duty.”
