Glendale-based DineEquity taps former studio exec for top financial post

Tom Emrey has been named the new chief financial officer at DineEquity Inc., the Glendale-based parent company of Applebee’s and IHOP.

For the past four years, Emrey has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal.
He previously was chief financial officer of Universal Studios Home Entertainment from 2003 to 2007.

Prior to Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Emrey held a number of senior finance positions at Nestle USA, also based in Glendale.

Earlier in his career, Emrey spent several years with Silgan Containers Corp., where he held various positions as corporate controller, director of financial reporting and director of internal audit. Emrey began his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young, according to an announcement from DineEquity.

A certified public accountant, Emrey received a bachelor’s degree from USC and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
