Why add a competing business?

What’s next? An Olive Garden across the street from Portobello’s, Tony Roma’s next to Zeke’s Smokehouse?

I’m all for more foot traffic along Honolulu Avenue, but to approve an identical competing business directly across the street from an existing (and apparently thriving) one is just wrong (“Proposed Starbucks stirs up Montrose,” Sept. 9).

Megacorp Starbucks already occupies space near the United Artists movie theaters barely a mile away from the proposed location. I hope this blatant muscling into the Montrose Shopping Park in the name of free enterprise is rejected.
