A 20-year-old Macy’s employee was arrested Monday after he allegedly embezzled $4,000 from the Glendale Galleria store by significantly discounting merchandise for friends and customers, police said.

The department store’s lost prevention representative told police that he saw John Vazquez sell an item valued at $49.50 for 20 cents without managerial approval.

Vazquez allegedly admitted to lost prevention representatives that he had been fixing merchandise prices since June, according to reports.

He often allowed his friend to purchase hundreds of dollars worth in merchandise for $40, according to Glendale police reports.

In some instances, Vazquez allegedly told police that he didn’t ring up all merchandise at the cash register and would allow his friend to leave the store with items.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and embezzlement, according to police.
