She wants train whistles

When we came to Glendale, we were thrilled to hear the trains again. Of course we need more safety at Glendale’s crossings (“PUC reopens Doran rail crossing review,” Oct. 30).

But why can’t we continue to hear the whistle of the trains?

I grew up hearing trains of all sorts. In Orange County, the packing plants all had trains. On the east coast of New Jersey, we heard commuter trains at least each hour. It was a comforting and truly American feeling that resonates of our past — and perhaps our future.
