Laverna Marie Mohr passed away on Saturday, October 29th, 2011, in Atascadero, California. Laverna was born at home to Otto and Mary Wied on November 18, 1918, in Tamora, Nebraska. After attending business college in Lincoln, Nebraska, she worked as a dental assistant and later as a dietician. Laverna met her future husband, Roger, at a dance in Lincoln, and was subsequently convinced that she should follow him to sunny California. They were married in Pasadena in 1939, and were long-time residents of Burbank, where they raised their three children. Laverna moved to Templeton in 2003 to be closer to her family, and grew to love the beauty of the Central Coast.

For 65 years, Laverna was a housewife and mother who took great pride in her home and family at 814 E. Providencia.

An accomplished seamstress, Laverna was forever busy with a new dress or outfit for a friend or family.

She was the ever-present room mom and Girl Scout leader, and neighborhood kids who dropped by after school could always count on Laverna’s homemade cookies and cake.

Because Laverna and Roger loved most of all to spend time with their family, they took the kids camping all over the U.S.

As a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Burbank, Laverna dedicated hundreds of volunteer hours producing Braille books.

Laverna is survived by her children, Diane Mohr (Jan), Jerry Mohr (Mary), Jean Mohr Trumbull (Jon), grandchildren Lisa (Mark), Adam (Lilliana), Jason (Tiffany), Katy and Jenny, great-granddaughter, Eva, and numerous family and friends. She will be missed by her long-time best friend Madeline, with whom she especially enjoyed a weekly lunch and “feeling fabric” outing. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Milton, Harold, and Leslie, and her husband Roger. The family would like to thank the staff at Garden View Inn in Atascadero for providing a loving and comfortable home for Laverna. Private services will be held at a later date. Charitable contributions may be made to The Braille Institute: www.brailleinstitute.org.
