Foul-mouthed baby? Or just baby talk?

Share

A Glendale resident got what she said was an unexpected earful from a baby doll she planned to purchase at the Toys R Us in Burbank: the “B” word.

To make matters worse, Carol Szilagyi, a 68-year-old grandmother and great grandmother, said she planned to buy several dolls for a Los Angeles area battered women’s shelter.

“If I had enough time before Christmas, I would take every other grandma I know and go before the store to complain,” Szilagyi said.

The You & Me Interactive Play and Giggle Triplet dolls, listed online for roughly $40, have generated plenty of buzz on YouTube and news outlets, with consumers convinced the doll says “OK, crazy b____!”

Stores have countered that the dolls are programmed to talk in “baby talk,” but Szilagyi said she waved her hand in front of the doll a few times to make sure she heard what she thought she heard.

It was the “B word,” Szilagyi said.

“The manager said it was baby talk and not foul language,” she said. “No baby I know uses words like that.”
