Inert military artillery shell at Burbank home prompts brief evacuation

Share

A military-grade artillery shell was discovered at a Burbank home this morning, but it was determined to be inert after officials briefly evacuated nearby residents, according to police.

Los Angeles police discovered the military ordnance while serving a search warrant at a home in the 600 block of East Fairmont Road at about 7 a.m. It was not immediately clear what prompted the search, but Burbank police, which provided traffic control, said no arrests were made.

The LAPD bomb squad examined the device and determined it to be safe. As a precaution, officials evacuated several residents immediately surrounding the house. After about 2 1/2 hours, the residents were allowed to return to their homes.
