The City Council gave the OK for staff to apply for a $250,000 grant through Los Angeles County to fund an elderly nutrition program from July 2012 to June 2016.
The grant is available to agencies that provide meals to seniors who are at least 60 years old, but it requires a 15% match from the city. Glendale has successfully applied for the money since 1979.
The city serves about 41,000 hot meals each year at the Adult Recreation Center, Sparr Heights Community Center and Pacific Park Community Center, and delivers about 12,000 meals to homebound seniors. Often, they are the only meal of the day for some seniors, according to a city report.
