Sears and Kmart stores in the tri-city area survived the first round of announced store closures today.

Sears Holdings Corp. released a list of 79 of the 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores it plans to close across the country.

Company officials this week announced plans to close the stores after disappointing holiday sales.

Sears Holdings has a Sears store at 236 N. Central Ave. in Glendale and at 3801 E. Foothill Blvd. in Pasadena. And there’s a Kmart at 1000 N. San Fernando Blvd. in Burbank.

No timeline for the closures was released.

The company didn’t estimate how many workers would be impacted, but the initial closure list states that a typical store employs between 40 and 80 associates.
