Parents of teens offered support classes

Share

Glendale Unified School District and the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA are sponsoring a support resource to all parents of Rosemont, Crescenta Valley and Clark students.

Please join Pam Erdman, MFT, and Paul Royer, LCSW, for presentations and discussions on parenting teens. These are one-hour meetings beginning at 7:15 every Tuesday evening (except during school holidays) held at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, 1930 Foothill Boulevard, La Cañada Flintridge. Following are the scheduled meetings for January:

January 10 — Paul Royer on Pressure to Perform: Teens are faced with daily pressures including homework, tests, team sports, family/church activities and extra-curricular activities. How can parents best support teens and recognize when they are overwhelmed and facing burnout?

January 17 — Pam Erdman on Responsibility: Are you a helicopter parent, tiger parent or somewhere in between? Being the parent of a teen necessitates letting go, even if that means letting them fail. Come and hear how and when to let go in healthy ways.

January 24 — Pam Erdman on Privacy: As a parent of a teen, do you feel like you are walking a razor’s edge between privacy and safety? Find out about simple but important techniques you can do in a healthy and helpful way.

January 31 — Pam Erdman on Rules and Consequences: How do we get our teens to abide by our rules and decisions? Making unilateral decrees does not work. How do you apply effective consequences without seeming punitive? Come and hear strategies.
