The longer in office, the looser the tongue

Since the beginning of the year, Councilman Ara Najarian has been especially verbose, with a renewed vigor for grandstanding, hyperbole and platitudes. It seems as if the longer a council member is in office, the looser the tongue.

Eventually, the unrestrained tirades gives us a glimpse of the biases and prejudices that lurk just behind their conscious selves (“Najarian apologizes to East L.A. residents for sign comment,” Feb. 1).

The quote from Texas Gov. Ann Richards when referring to President George Bush could be applied here: “He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”
