A Burbank woman suffered cuts to her hip and arm Monday night during a home invasion robbery in which at least $10,000-worth of jewelry was stolen, police said.

The 29-year-old woman was home alone in the 1900 block of North Buena Vista Street when someone knocked on her apartment door at about 9:30 p.m., Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said. When she answered, a man burst in a knife and warned her not to scream.

The man cut the woman twice as she attempted to get away and call police, Ryburn said.

After taking cash and jewelry valued at between $10,000 and $15,000, the man fled the scene. Police described him as Latino, 6 feet tall with a husky build and in his 30s.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries and did not recognize the suspect, Ryburn said.

Detectives were investigating how the man entered the gated apartment complex with on-site security.

Anyone with information was asked to call Burbank police Det. Rick Medlin at (818) 238-3210.
