Anna Dorothy Snaer

Share

Our beloved mother, Ann, went to God on Sunday afternoon, March 11, 2012. She was born one hundred years ago on July 23, 1911, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Thomas and Catherine Ratigan. The family moved to Glendale, California in 1923 where Thomas built the house where she lived most of her good life and experienced her peaceful death.

In 1932, she married Bernard A. Snaer. They were married for 67 years when he passed away in 1999.

Our mother was generous in her love and support for all who needed it. She was particularly active in activities surrounding Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a teacher of Religious Education for public school children. She and our father served as Eucharistic Ministers to the sick and they both helped administer the parish Bingo program for many years. Ann was active in the Young Ladies Institute, and also served as Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. She continued to be active in the Cabrini Literary Guild until the month before her death.

Ann informally adopted a young boy whose mother needed assistance and made him part of our family. She reached out to other young people who needed a stronger parental presence, or just some special assistance.

The surprisingly large attendance at her hundredth birthday celebration was a measure of the friendliness and kindness that she distributed to all who met her.

Ann is survived by her two children, Dr. William Snaer (Mary), Sr. Dorothea Snaer, three grandchildren, Mrs. Catherine Henry (Ed), Dr. Brian Snaer (Leanne), Dr. Kevin Snaer (Shannon), and ten great-grandchildren.

Viewing and Rosary will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, 10:15am, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 220 E. Elk Avenue, Glendale, CA, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30am. A reception will follow at the Church of the Incarnation Community Center, 12:00pm, 214 W. Fairview, Glendale, CA. A procession to San Fernando Mission Cemetery will depart the reception at approximately 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to one of Ann’s favorite charity organizations.
