Ruth Marie Thomas Binzley

With loving memories, the family of Ruth Marie Thomas Binzley announces her passing on March 14, 2012. Her loving daughters were by her side when she passed peacefully to walk with the Lord.

Ruth; wife, mother, sister, and ‘Gramma’ was born on September 17, 1931 at the French Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Mabel and Daniel Thomas. She and her sister Nancy spent their childhood in Los Angeles where she attended UCLA on a music scholarship (violin) before marrying John Louis Binzley on December 18, 1954. She and her husband John moved to Glendale, California where together, they raised their three daughters; Ada Marie, Lois Jean and Margaret Grace.

Ruth lived an interesting and exciting life. She and her husband John built a successful business; Brock Bus Lines, Inc. where she worked by his side for many years. Ruth graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1949, Los Angeles City College in 1952, obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree in Medical Sociology from Cal State Northridge in 1979 and earned her RN license in 1981. She believed in life-long learning and instilled that desire in her children and grandchildren.

An avid traveler; Ruth, her husband, and her friends went on many adventures including Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Middle East. Among her many travels, she enjoyed ocean cruises and passed through the locks of the Panama Canal. She went on safari in Kenya, archaeological digs in Egypt and Israel, kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland, and visited the Holy Lands.

Ruth was an avid quilter and sewed with her many friends in her quilting group. She enjoyed genealogy, gardening, reading, history, and spoiling her grandchildren. Ruth and John spent several years as ‘snow birds’ on Whidbey Island, Washington where she enjoyed a relaxed island atmosphere.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Louis, her mother Mabel Mae Thomas and her father Daniel Small Thomas. Ruth is survived by her three children, Ada (Bill), Lois (Todd), and Margaret and her four grandchildren - Sarah, Madalyn, Rachel and Faith, her sister Nancy Weeks and many other loving family members, friends, and her beloved Labradoodle dog; Abby.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Glendale, California.
