Bob Hope Airport was among eight airfields across the nation that ranked in the top eight best alternative airports in the latest edition of Inc. magazine.

Here’s what the magazine had to say about Burbank’s airport:

With an on time departure rate comparable to that at LAX, Burbank is another excellent alternative airport that offers travelers an easy airport experience with lots of cheap parking, short lines at check in and security, and 29 unique destinations.

Despite the convenience, Bob Hope Airport has been grappling with months of declines in passenger numbers and parking revenues -- a vital source of income for the airfield. It also took a hit earlier this year when American Airlines pulled out.

The airport is moving ahead with a multi-million dollar transit center that will bring bus and rail lines together with rental car facilities. Officials hope the improved connectivity with regional transit lines will lure more passengers to the airport.

The other airfields on the Inc. list included: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport, Baltimore Washington International Airport , T.F. Green International Airport, Long Beach Airport, Dallas Lovefield Airport, Long Island—MacArthur Airport.
