Western Ave. off-ramp to close Friday night for the weekend

State transportation officials say the northbound Golden State (I-5) Freeway off-ramp to Western Avenue in Glendale will be closed this weekend as crews finish up a paving and striping project.

The ramp closure will start at 9 p.m. Friday and end at 6 a.m. Monday, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The construction is part of the realignment of the northbound Interstate 5-Western Avenue interchange, with the ramps slated to start and end at the Flower Street intersection. The project, which began in November 2010, is scheduled to be completed this month, according to Caltrans.

The realignment should ease traffic congestion for the San Fernando Road corridor where several studios, including Disney’s massive Creative Campus, are expected to draw an increasing number of employees over the coming years.
