Search for new Glendale Community College president narrows to finalists

The hunt for an interim president at Glendale Community College is down to a short list of finalists, officials confirmed Friday.

College trustees have conducted multiple interviews, whittling down an applicant pool of 22 to “several” top candidates, said board of trustees President Armine Hacopian.

“It is all dependent on the reference checks,” Hacopian said. “Every board member is doing reference checks and we have to come together to see [the results]. That is where we are right now.”

Trustees could announce the interim president as early as June 25.

Candidate interviews were conducted on an accelerated schedule. In May, Donna Voogt, dean of human resources, said that they wouldn’t start until June 21. Officials said they decided to move up the interviews to avoid summer scheduling conflicts, as well as to get someone in place before outgoing President/Supt. Dawn Lindsay departs in July.

Lindsay announced in April that she had accepted the president job at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. She was named interim president at Glendale Community College in May 2009, following the resignation of Audre Levy. One year later, the college hired her on a three-year contract through June 2013.

Trustee Tony Tartaglia said that the board intends to move the hunt for the interim president forward as quickly as possible so as not to place undue burdens on the college’s administrative staff.

“I am quite satisfied on all fronts,” Tartaglia said. “I think there is a lot of like-mindedness. Everybody was on board with moving forward with several of the same individuals.”
