Armed robbers hit 7-11, Subway
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two gunmen who robbed local 7-Eleven and Subway stores in separate incidents.
The Glendale Police Department has released photographs and surveillance videos of the robberies, which occurred at the Subway in the 800 block of North Pacific Avenue on May 29 and at the 7-Eleven in the 800 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard on June 4. Police believe different gunmen committed the robberies.
Efforts to identify the men by posting bulletins at other police agencies haven’t been successful, prompting Glendale police to turn to the public, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
Surveillance video from the 7-Eleven robbery shows the gunman — described as wearing a black ski mask, black jacket and black pants — at about 4 a.m. as he darts through the store and around the counter where an employee appears to be cleaning.
Police said the man pointed a long-barreled gun at the employee’s feet and said, “Give me the [expletive] money. Throw the money on the floor.”
The video shows the employee opening the cash register and sliding money on the floor to the gunman, who was crouched throughout the robbery.
He continued crouching as he fled the store. Police later discovered his clothing stashed under a car cover.
In the second robbery, police said the gunman entered the Subway at about 12:30 a.m. and asked for the time, remaining inside the shop for several minutes before leaving.
He returned about 1 a.m., ordered a sandwich and allowed other patrons to order before him, according to police.
When the employee opened the cash register, the gunman quickly reached for the money with his left hand.
In the video footage, the employee appeared to be startled by the gunman’s action and immediately grabbed his hand in attempt to stop him from taking the cash. But the man used his right hand to pull a gun from his waistband. Cash was flung in the air and the employee immediately ducked.
Two other patrons fled the shop while another employee, who was making sandwiches, ducked under the counter.
The gunman — described as Latino or black, 25 years old, 6 feet tall with black hair and green eyes — removed cash from the register and casually walked out.
