A 13-year-old mentally retarded boy who was reported missing Monday when he left Roosevelt Middle School during recess was found at Union Station in Los Angeles after boarding a bus in Glendale, police said.

Roosevelt school employees reported the boy missing about 10:15 a.m. after he failed to return to summer classes from recess, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. The boy was new to the school and wasn’t familiar with the area, he added.

Police put out an alert for the boy and searched the area, but he was eventually found about two hours later in downtown Los Angeles, Lorenz said.

A bus driver who was aware of the police alert spotted the boy at the train station and immediately notified police, Lorenz said.
