Fire extinguisher rampage in Winnetka leads to arrest

Authorities were trying to determine Thursday why a man allegedly went on a rampage inside a Winnetka medical clinic, attacking at least two women with a fire extinguisher.

KTLA-TV reported that police responded to reports of shots fired Wednesday afternoon inside the clinic on Sherman Way.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the man armed with a fire extinguisher that they said he was using to smash objects around the building. One witness told KTLA that the man attacked two women, spraying foam in the face of one and hitting another with the nozzle. They were treated and released from the hospital, officials said.

City News Service reported that the man was booked for felony vandalism. It said he was shouting “nonsense” during the attacks, and police told CNS that narcotics tests will be performed on the man.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department told The Times she was aware an incident occurred in the area Wednesday afternoon but could provide no details.

Calls to the LAPD’s Topanga Station were not answered early Thursday morning.
