Over 5,000 Glendale Water & Power customers in North Glendale lost power Tuesday due to a failure at the Montrose Power Substation, officials said.

[UPDATE: 5:45 p.m. Power has been restored to all customers.]

It is unknown what caused the outage or when power will be restored, city spokesman Tom Lorenz said.

The outage occurred about 3:19 p.m. in North Glendale, he said.

It is too early to determine whether increased power use due to today’s hot temperatures caused the outage, Lorenz said.

“We are expecting this and are prepared for this,” he added.

Temperatures today flirted with triple degrees, and in some parts were expected to hit 106 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

There will be little relief in the coming days, when temperatures could hit 105 degrees on Wednesday and 104 degrees on Thursday, according to the weather service.
