Fire intentionally set in stairwell of Glendale apartment building
Someone set a small fire Wednesday in the stairwell of an apartment building on Cañada Boulevard, police said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire that was reported about 10:20 a.m. under the building’s main stairwell in the 2600 block of Canada Boulevard, where they spotted a small hole in a wall filled with smoke and water, according to Glendale police reports.
A sprinkler went off and contained the fire, keeping it from spreading to apartments, police said.
A Glendale Fire Department investigator discovered a book of matches at the fire site, police said.
The building’s manager didn’t report seeing or hearing anything suspicious prior to the fire, police said.
