Cause of small blaze above Brand Park in Glendale under investigation

Firefighters say there were no “obvious ignition sources” for a 1 1/2-acre blaze Sunday above Brand Park, which left open the possibility of human causes.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported about 2:30 p.m. above the park in an area known as 7 Pines in the Verdugo Mountains, according to Glendale Fire Battalion Chief Tom Propst.

Two Los Angeles City Department helicopters dropped water on the blaze as fire and hand crews fought it on the ground.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known, Propst said Monday.

“There were no obvious natural ignition sources in the area, however, this area is regularly used by day hikers and the possibility of human cause was not ruled out,” he added.
