A Los Angeles man and a near-term pregnant woman were arrested early Tuesday after the man allegedly broke into a work van in Glendale and stole power tools, police said.

Ismael Gallegos, 36, and 20-year-old Erica Torres, — who was described by police as eight months pregnant — were taken into custody on suspicion of burglarizing the van at about 1:10 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Broadway, according to Glendale police reports.

The pair were stopped when police noticed that Gallegos and his Chevy Impala matched the description of a burglary suspect, police said.

They told police they were dropping off a friend in the area, but they didn’t know the friend’s last name or address, according to police reports.

But a witness told police that he saw Gallegos exit the Impala, allegedly enter the white work van and then emerge with a toolbox and other tools, prompting a call to police.

The witness told police he saw Gallegos allegedly place the valuables in the Impala’s trunk, look around and then drove off.

Police said Torres, also of Los Angeles, was a passenger in the Impala and acting as lookout.
