A 24-year-old former Target store employee was arrested this past weekend on a warrant for allegedly masturbating outside the Glendale Galleria in front of two women last year.

Los Angeles police stopped the man, Hanover Mares, early Saturday in the 100 block of Los Angeles Street and arrested him on the outstanding warrant for indecent exposure, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

The women, who were employees at American Eagle Outfitters, reported the indecent exposure incident to officers on April 18, 2011, according to Glendale police reports.

They exited the mall at about 10:24 p.m. and were walking toward Target when they spotted the man standing against a wall in front of the store, police said.

As the women got closer, they told police that the man first appeared to be playing with his belt. But they quickly realized he was masturbating, police said.

One woman reportedly told police she was “stunned” by the incident.

They immediately walked away, turned a corner and called police.

Officers searched for the man, but were unable to find him.

As police later reviewed surveillance video from the store, they identified Mares as the man who allegedly exposed himself to the women, Lorenz said.

Following the police identification of Mares, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office filed a misdemeanor count of indecent exposure against Mares on Aug. 5 last year, agency spokeswoman Jane Robison said.

He was released Sunday after posting $10,000 bail.

Mares is scheduled to return Oct. 17 to be arraigned on the charge.
