An 89-year-old woman suffered numerous broken bones Sunday evening after she was struck by a motorist in a crosswalk on California Avenue, police said.

The woman remained in critical condition with major body trauma at a local hospital, where she was being treated for a broken leg and bones to her upper body, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

She was walking east about 5:30 p.m. in the California Avenue crosswalk when she was struck by a motorist who was traveling west to South Glendale Avenue, police said.

The motorist — who appeared to have failed to stop at the crosswalk — remained at the scene as detectives investigated the crash, Lorenz said.
