Nine motorists were arrested in Glendale Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a saturation patrol, police said.

The Police Department had originally scheduled a sobriety checkpoint, but canceled the operation due to rain. Instead, police patrolled the city and looked for DUI motorists.

Officers stopped 70 vehicles and conducted 21 field sobriety tests on motorists.

Eight drivers were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while another was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, according to police Sgt. Richard Phillips.

Four other motorists were arrested for driver’s license violations and five vehicles were impounded.
