A couple in their 70s reported their wedding rings stolen Wednesday after they briefly left their home, only to return and see a man running from their driveway, police said.

The husband and wife, both 72, had left for separate errands for a few hours and returned home about 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Ridge Drive to see a man running from their driveway, according to Glendale police reports.

The dark-colored sedan was parked in front of their home, and drove away toward southbound Solway Street.

That’s when the pair noticed one of their safes lying on the driveway. Then the couple discovered their home had been ransacked.

Papers, clothes, jewelry boxes and other valuables were strewn on the floor of their bedroom.

The couple then came upon the wooden box that had contained their wedding rings and other jewelry.

It was empty.

Police discovered a rear door of the home had been pried open.

The couple described the man as Latino, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue or black sweatshirt and pants.

Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to call Glendale Crimestoppers at (818) 507-7867.
