Frigid temperatures, winds, to subside by midweek

The cold air mass that has kept things frigid will start to lose their grip on the tri-city region as the week progresses, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect blistery conditions through Tuesday, but on Wednesday, a high pressure system will start to build, pulling daytime temperatures back into the mid-60s to low-70s.

The chilly temperatures are the result of a cold air mass that came in last week from Canada, which combined with high pressure in the Pacific and low pressure toward Arizona, creating clear, cold nights and dry air, Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the weather service, told The Times.

Meanwhile, a wind advisory is in effect for the east San Fernando Valley region, including Burbank, until noon Tuesday, with possible gusts of up to 50 mph.
