Glendale police call off search for man in La Cañada
Police called off the search for a motorist who they say appeared to be surveying possible home burglary targets Tuesday before fleeing.
Officers were unable to find the motorist even after searching a nearby wash and his parent’s home in the 1100 block of Descanso Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.
A police officer in a plain car was monitoring the area of Chevy Chase and Emerald Isle drives in Glendale when he “observed a suspicious male in a vehicle driving around the neighborhood,” and appeared to be casing homes, Lorenz said.
When the officer attempted to stop the motorist at about 11:30 a.m., he briefly yielded and then quickly accelerated, prompting a pursuit into La Canada.
The motorist — who police declined to immediately identify — abandoned his car near his parent’s home on Descanso Drive and ran from police, who reported finding burglary tools inside the vehicle.
Police contacted a family member who lives with the suspect to get permission to enter the home and conduct a search, he said.
The motorist is on post-release community supervision for a burglary conviction, Lorenz added.
