Police continue to search La Cañada neighborhood for suspect who fled Glendale

Glendale police officials say a motorist they are searching for in a La Canada Flintridge neighborhood appeared to be surveying possible home burglary targets before fleeing.

Police discovered burglary tools inside the motorist’s vehicle, which he dumped after running away from police and into the 1100 block of Descanso Drive, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

A police officer in a plain car was monitoring the area of Chevy Chase and Emerald Isle drives in Glendale when he “observed a suspicious male in a vehicle driving around the neighborhood,” and appeared to be casing homes, Lorenz said.

When the officer attempted to stop the motorist at about 11:30 a.m., he briefly yielded and then quickly accelerated, prompting a pursuit into La Canada.

The motorist -- who police declined to identify – apparently lives in the La Canada neighborhood he fled to.

Police contacted a family member who lives with the suspect to get permission to enter the home and search for him, Lorenz said.

The motorist is on post-release community supervision for a burglary conviction, Lorenz added.
