Cadillac lands on roof of home in Glendale

An unusual sight caught residents and rescue crews by surprise Saturday night in Glendale.

The driver of a Cadillac lost control and landed on the roof of a house in the 400 block of Audraine Drive.

The fire department had to call in a crane to remove the vehicle from the home, but no one was seriously hurt.

[Updated March 23, 2013: The driver of a Cadillac apparently lost his brakes after he left his steep driveway, flew down a hill and landed on the roof of a home, Glendale police said.

The car crossed a yard and went airborne, coming to rest in the 400 block of Audraine Drive in the Glendale hills on Saturday evening.

The Glendale Fire Department had to call in a crane to remove the vehicle from the home, but no one was seriously hurt.

An 80-year old man was in his bedroom below. Authorities said he was startled, but otherwise fine. A support wall is located underneath where the car landed.

Neighbor Raffie Berberin said one neighbor said the crash sounded like an earthquake. That neighbor grabbed a ladder and helped rescue the couple in the car.
Galina Wynn, a passenger in the car, told KABC-TV Channel 7 that she didn’t see anything.

“As soon as we hit the corner, the airbags deployed and I didn’t even see where we were going from there,” Wynn said.

She said she felt sore, but otherwise extremely lucky.

“You know I’ve seen other similar collisions. We have a lot of hillsides here in Glendale. But this was very unique that it landed the way it did and didn’t go through the roof of the home and cause some injuries,” Glendale police Lt. Scott Bickle said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.]
