Area students compete in California State Science Fair

Local middle and high school students competed for statewide science accolades on Monday and Tuesday at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
The California State Science Fair, now in its 62nd year, featured projects from about 1,000 budding scientists who received high honors at regional science fairs throughout the state, California Science Center spokeswoman Paula Wagner said.

Participants competed in 23 categories for a share of $50,000 in prize money, including special awards from a number of science and engineering firms.
Student projects tackled subjects as diverse as molecular biology, alternative energy, electromagnetism and behavioral science.
Area competitors hailed from Incarnation Parish and Chamlian Armenian schools in Glendale and Crescenta Valley High and Rosemont Middle schools, plus La Cañada High, St. Bede the Venerable and Flintridge Preparatory schools in La Cañada Flintridge, Blair International Baccalaureate and St. Gregory Hovsepian schools in Pasadena, and South Pasadena High School.
