A Glendale woman was assaulted Saturday during a robbery attempt in downtown Glendale, police said.

She refused medical treatment after being hit in the face with the alleged thief’s jacket, according to Glendale police.

The woman was waiting for the Glendale Beeline bus at about 4:40 p.m. in the 200 block of North Brand Boulevard when a man suddenly approached her and hit her with his jacket.

While her face was covered with his jacket and she yelled for help, the man tried pulling her purse off her shoulder, police said.

After seeing the assault, an employee from Far Niente Restaurant ran outside to assist her and called police.

He told police the man ran away and got on the No. 92 Metro Bus.

The clean-shaven man was described as Filipino, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 175 pounds, with short brown hair, police said. He was wearing black sunglasses, a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and was holding two white plastic bags.
