CPR training events planned throughout region on Tuesday

Healthcare and public safety officials will offer free “hands-only” CPR training to residents at various locations in the tri-cities region on Tuesday.

The one-day CPR training event was established out of a need to improve survival times among patients who suffer from cardiac arrest.

The five- to 10-minute “hands only” CPR lessons are focused on teaching residents how to perform chest compressions to keep a cardiac patient alive until emergency personnel arrive to the scene.

The Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency, Los Angeles County Fire Department and American Heart Assn. are coordinating the event, with lessons being held at more than 80 locations countywide.

While 80% of cardiac arrests occur at home, just 3% of those patients survive, according to county healthcare officials.

The following sites will be hosting CPR training:

- 8 a.m. to noon: San Marino Fire Department, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Lifesaver Education at Pasadena City College, 1570 E. Colorado Blvd.

- 9 a.m. to noon: Glendale Adventist Medical Center at the Glendale Galleria, 100 West Broadway.

- 10 a.m. to noon: Los Angeles County Fire Department at Ralphs Grocery Store, 2675 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.

- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Lifesaver Education at Pasadena City College, 1570 E. Colorado Blvd.

- 4 to 9 p.m.: Burbank Fire Department and Providence Saint Joseph’s Hospital at San Fernando and Palm Avenue in Burbank and at the Burbank Town Center, 201 E. Magnolia.

- Huntington Memorial Hospital at various locations at the One Colorado retail and entertainment center in Pasadena.

- South Pasadena Fire Department 81, 817 Mound Ave.
