Heat wave: Cooling centers to open across tri-city area

Extreme heat expected throughout the San Fernando Valley this weekend has prompted county officials to reopen local cooling centers.

Temperatures are expected to reach up to 100 in Burbank, 98 in Glendale and 101 in Pasadena, according to the National Weather Service. Combined heat and humidity could increase temperatures to 105.

Officials are asking residents to reduce physical activity and avoid going outside between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Residents can stay out of the heat at several air-conditioned cooling centers in Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena — most of which will be open on Saturday.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the cooling centers may call the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management at (323) 459-3779. To find the nearest cooling center, dial 211.
