A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s bomb squad removed a live grenade from a home garage today in La Crescenta, police said.

The homeowner discovered the WWII-era grenade in her garage in the 3500 block of Community Avenue about 10 a.m. and immediately notified authorities, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The grenade likely belonged to her husband, who was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, he said.

The bomb squad examined the grenade and rendered it safe just after 11 a.m. before hauling it away, Lorenz said.
