An alleged thief stole $100 in coins and damaged several washing machines Tuesday at a local laundromat, officials said.

Surveillance video shows the alleged thief arriving about 6:34 a.m. at Coin Laundry in the 500 block of South Verdugo in a white BMW and entering the empty laundromat.

The man spent about a half-hour in the facility, prying open several coin boxes. Video footage shows the man then dumping change from the coin boxes into his pant pockets.

“It’s unfortunate that someone would cause so much property damage and engage in criminal activity to just steal a few bucks,” Dan Khatchaturian, owner of the laundromat, said. “I hope we’re able to catch this culprit and put an end to such senseless crimes against property.”

Coins were also recently stolen from machines inside an apartment building in Glendale, according to police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

Detectives will investigate the incidents to determine if there is any connection, he added.
