Convicted peeper busted again in Glendale
A Glendale man twice convicted of prowling was arrested again Wednesday after allegedly peeping through home windows for several nights at a mother and her 14-year-old daughter, police said.
Jose Cera, who’s on active parole for burglary, was taken into custody Wednesday night on an outstanding warrant for prowling after the 37-year-old mother identified him as the same man who had been spying on her and her daughter, according to Glendale police.
Cera, 22, already has two convictions for prowling that occurred within months of each other in 2012, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.
Even though he is on parole and has two convictions for the same offense, he likely won’t go to prison if convicted in the latest incident because it’s not a violent crime, said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.
“This is the state of the state we live in,” he said. “This is someone who should be in jail but we can’t keep him in jail.”
Cera was convicted of burglary in 2011, but hasn’t spent any lengthy amount of time in jail.
In the latest incident, Cera was seen on July 6, 7 and 13 outside the home in the 100 block of North Chevy Chase Drive, according to police. On one occasion, he allegedly peered into the bedroom window and tried to conceal himself when the mother saw him.
Officers responding to the July 13 incident recalled a similar case that occurred in November 2012 and created a photo lineup with Cera’s picture. The mother quickly identified Cera as the man who spied on her, police said.
In last year’s case, Cera was allegedly caught twice peeking into a woman’s home in the 200 block of Chevy Chase Drive — a block away from the latest incident.
The woman’s sister spotted Cera two nights in a row as he stood by a back door and attempted to avoid motion-activated lights, police said. He was convicted in that incident.
